This is the seventh year of the state’s Clean Energy Communities program which allows local governments to implement clean energy actions, save energy costs, create jobs, and improve the environment. Yates County joined the program in 2019 when it started working on the Clean Energy Community status to obtain funding to install the Electronic Vehicle charging station at the library. County Administrator Nonie Flynn says those program efforts have continued and have paid off with more grand funding.
Rob Richardson, the Clean Energy Communities Coordinator for the Genesee/Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council calls what Yates County did “an incredible accomplishment.” He said the four other counties have huge urban centers and a combined population of 1.6 million people and what Yates County did was done on pure economics with a total population of 25,000.
Richardson affectionately called Yates County officials “Rock Stars.”
