Since the announcement last Fall that Micron will build a semiconductor manufacturing campus in Onondaga County, many municipalities in Central New York and the Finger Lakes have been wondering what economic impact it will have on them.
Governor Kathy Hochul’s proposed executive budget calls for the creation of the Governor’s Office of Semiconductor Expansion, Management, and Integration (GO-SEMI) to facilitate a semiconductor supply chain across New York.
Governor Hochul:
Under her plan, the office would help bring companies into New York that are critical in the process of creating semiconductors.
Over the next 20 years, Micron is expected to create nearly 50-thousand jobs and invest 100-billion dollars in the community.
