Michael Gerard Turner, 59, of Gorham, passed away peacefully at Light Hill Hospice surrounded by his family, on January 9, 2019.
Honoring Michael’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to the Celebration of Life at Reed Corners Federated Church (4030 Route 247, Canandaigua, NY) at 2 p.m. on Sunday (January 20), followed by a gathering at Club 86 in Geneva.

Michael was born July 26th, 1959 to William “Bart” and Ann (Thompson) Turner in Canandaigua, N.Y. Michael attended Marcus Whitman High School, where he met his high school sweetheart and wife, Laurie (Thomas). Michael and Laurie raised three children, each now with their own families, (Dr. Thomas) Stephanie Nguyen, Jeremy (Anastasiia) Turner, (Ryan) Danielle James and eight grandchildren Madeline, Rosemary, Anna, Teyla, Tessa, Adeline, Nikita and Liam, all of whom perpetuate his notable sense of humor and appreciation for a good practical joke.
Michael attended SUNY Morrisville and worked for Milton CAT in Batavia. Michael was actively engaged in the community, having served with the Gorham Volunteer Fire Department, Gorham Town Board, Marcus Whitman School Board and was an active member of the International Organization of Odd Fellows. Michael was also a member of the Reed Corners Federated Church.
Michael is survived by mother, Ann Turner; his brother and sisters William (Pam) Turner, (Dr. Neil) Mary Lachant, Dan (Beth) Turner, (Tom) Maggie Turner-Read, John (Amy) Turner. His wife Laurie’s family, Jeremy and Lois (Calman) Thomas and their children, Julie (Rich) Julian, (Phil) Wilde, (Scott) Mary Freischlag, Tonya Thomas, (Orrin) Stacy Thomas-Anderson, (Tim) Deanna Jones and many nieces and nephews.
Michael is preceded by his father, William and sister-in-law, Yolanda (Thomas) Wilde.
