Woodstock is coming to Watkins Glen! The co-creator of the legendary 1969 event, Michael Lang, will honor its 50 year anniversary with a three day music festival at Watkins Glen International August 16th, 17th and 18th. WGI’s Director of Public Relations Chris Banker on why Watkins Glen was chosen for “Woodstock 50.”
The festival is expected to draw 100-THOUSAND people just two weeks after the track will welcome another 100-THOUSAND for NASCAR weekend. Banker said preparations are already underway.
How about the economic impact the event could have on the region?
The race track is no stranger to large concerts. In 1973, a reported crowd of 600,000 people flocked there to see a one-day event featuring the Allman Brothers Band, the Grateful Dead and the Band. Phish held their Superball IX at Watkins Glen in 2011, but they were forced to cancel their Curveball Festival last August because the water supply had been contaminated.
