Two area congressman are agreeing with their opposition. Republican Representatives John Katko and Tom Reed voted in favor of rule changes proposed by the Democratic majority. The Problem Solvers Committee, of which Katko and Reed are members, supported one of the biggest changes made by Democrats.
The Auburn Citizen reports a motion to remove and replace the Speaker of the House would only be considered if it has the support of a majority of House Democrats or Republicans.
The two Republicans also oppose the government shutdown, which has now been going on for more than two weeks.
Reed represents the 23rd Congressional District, which covers much of the Southern Tier. Katko leads the 24th Congressional District, including Cayuga County.
