2018 marked the third straight year there was an increase in the number of deer killed by hunters here in New York State.
The DEC says hunters reported taking 11 percent more deer in the Southern Zone than in 2017. For the Northern Zone, that number increased 14 percent. Preliminary figures show hunters killed approximately 109-THOUSAND deer this fall statewide, compared to just under 98-THOUSAND last year and 86-THOUSAND for the year before that.
The number of bears killed for 2018 decreased by 120 to 1,186.
