In Seneca County Court Thursday, Karen Zdunko took the stand and identified Emerson “John” Tohafjian as the man who opened fire on her and two friends inside her Waterloo apartment.
Zdunko survived the shooting that killed Lori McConnell and Chuck Andrus. She testified that Tohafjian shot her while trying to get around her. After firing, he allegedly apologized then went on to shoot Andrus and McConnell. According to Zdunko, McConnell fell back onto the loveseat and Tohafjian unloaded his gun on her. Zdunko testified that “He just smiled at me and left,” That’s when she called 911 then watched McConnell take her last breath.
A medical examiner testified that Lori McConnell was shot 12 times.
Tohafjian is charged with murder and several other charges.
