The Cayuga County Legislature on Thursday filled four senior management positions.
Acting County Attorney Chris Palermo had the acting removed from his title after serving in the position since the sudden resignation of long-time county attorney Fred Westphal in late October.
County Administrator J. Justin Woods tells Finger Lakes News Radio they had two outstanding candidates for the new position of Director of Public Works.
Retired Army Lt. Col. David Gardner was named to fill the new post, while former Tompkins County Deputy Highway Director Carl Martel was appointed to the deputy position.
Gardner served as Interim Director for Resource Management at the Army Reserve Command at Fort Bragg and as the Chief Financial Officer and Comptroller of the Army Cadet Command at Fort Knox.
Douglas Whittaker becomes the part-time Emergency Management Office Director. Woods says he’ll undertake a review of emergency operations.
Whittaker takes the half-time position after a 40-year career as a Syracuse firefighter and as the Chair of Public Safety at Onondaga Community College’s Public Safety Training Center.
