The Wayne County Office of the Sheriff reports the arrest of a Newark man during an investigation into a domestic dispute. Alejandro A. Mercado of 212 Fillmore Street was being taken into custody by deputies after it was determined that Mercado was incapacitated by his consumption of alcohol to the point where physical harm of himself and/or others was likely if no action were to be taken by deputies. Deputies say that Mercado physically resisted and attempted to fight deputies while they had attempted to arrest Mercado. Mercado was taken into custody and was discovered to be in possession of Marihuana. Deputies say Mercado proceeded to make multiple threats of physical harm to deputies while in custody. Mercado was arrested for resisting arrest, harassment in the 2nd degree and unlawful possession of marihuana. Mercado was arraigned before Judge VanNostrand in the Town of Williamson Court. Following arraignment Mercado was committed to the Wayne County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail or $1,000 insurance bond. Mercado is to reappear in the Town of Williamson court at a later date for further court proceedings.
