Following an investigation by its review board, the Diocese of Rochester has removed two priest from public ministry, including Father Erick Viloria who served at Our Lady of Peach Parish in Geneva.
Father Viloria is accused of inappropriate use of social media with an adult. He is now restricted from engaging in public ministry or presenting himself publicly as a cleric. The diocese received a claim against Viloria, which was unrelated to his parish ministry, in August.
A native of Colombia, the 34 year old Viloria was ordained in June by Bishop Salvatore Matano. He served as parochial vicar at St. Mary’s Parish and Ss. Mary and Martha Parish, Auburn, from June 2016 to June 2018, when he began his assignment as parochial vicar at Our Lady of Peace. Father Michael Merritt has been appointed parochial vicar of Our Lady of Peace Parish.
The other priest removed was based in Tioga County.
