It was standing room only in the Auburn City Council chamber on Friday as State Senator Pam Helming honored twenty military veterans who have been nominated for the State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame.
Sen. Helming comes from a military family, and she told Finger Lakes News Radio the ceremony took on a special meaning for her.
The Senate Veterans Hall of Fame honors outstanding veterans with both distinguished military and civilian careers. One veteran from each of the 63 senate districts selected to be inducted each year. Among the nominees yesterday were Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould and United Way of Cayuga County Executive Director Karen Macier, both Army veterans.
The veteran representing the 54th district will be announce in April, prior to the Senate Veterans Hall of Fame ceremony which will be held at the state capitol in May.
