Four Watkins Glen firefighters escaped injury Tuesday after their firetruck went off the road and into a ditch before tipping over onto its side.
Chief Charlie Smith says the four were responding in a to a barn fire in Burdett. As the driver, a 35 plus year veteran of the department, went to make a turn onto County Road 9 from State Route 79, he lost where the road was because of poor visibility. All four were helped out of the truck by Montour Falls firefighters and were examined and released at the scene.
State Police inspected the fire truck and the accident was investigated by the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office.
