William “Bill” Ash, 96, passed away Saturday (November 24, 2018) in the Living Center South at Geneva with his family by his side.
Friends and family may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday (November 29) at Mull Funeral Home, 113 Virginia Street, Waterloo. A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m., Friday (November 30) at Saint Mary’s Church Waterloo. A military service will be held immediately after mass at the church conducted by the VFW Post 6433 and American Legion Post 435. Burial will be in Pine Plains Cemetery in Clay, New York, Saturday (December 1) at 11 a.m.

Bill was born on March 2, 1922 in Nedrow, N.Y. the son of the late Kenneth and Hazel (Bishop) Ash. He served our country in the US Army Air Corp during WWII. After the War Bill settled in Euclid, NY. Bill served his community as a Boy Scout Leader, a Captain in Civil Defense, a Town of Clay Police Officer and a Special Deputy for the Sheriff’s department. Bill worked at various companies and retired from Carrier Corporation. After retirement Bill and his wife moved to Waterloo, N.Y. where Bill pursued his interest in woodworking. He was a member of the VFW Post 6433 and American Legion Post 435 both in Waterloo.
He is survived by his two daughters Susan (Fritz) Breen-Chrysler of Waterloo and Judith (Gerald) Ashelin of Texas; one brother, Richard Ash of Lowville, N.Y.; four grandchildren Anthony Ashelin, Beth Toth, Lee Ann (Keith) and Will (Missy) Breen; seven great-grandchildren Sam Breen, Emily, Alex, Brady and Gracie Snyder and Cole and Wyatt Ashelin; three great-great-grandchildren Rhyleigh, Julian and Grayson.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Catherine Kromko Ash; a brother Donald Ash; and a sister, Sally Ann Cross.
