Thelma Eunice (Curtis Mierke) Jones, 79, of Jackson St., died peacefully at her home, Wednesday (November 21, 2018).
A memorial service will be held Saturday (Dec 1) at 11 a.m. at Woodlane Community Church, Woodlane, Newark NY.
Memorials may be made to the Wayne County Humane Society.
Thelma was born in Lyons December 3, 1938 daughter of Frederick J. and Arletta (Horn) Curtis. Thelma spent her entire life as a resident of Lyons. She loved to play piano and spent many a night playing the baby grand in her Layton Street residence. Thelma worked hard and was a devoted mother. She worked for Sibley’s in Newark for 30 years. She was the proprietor of Merk’s Place in Lyons for 3 years. She worked as a nurse’s aide at the Wayne County Nursing Home and as a correction officer for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department.
She is survived by her husband, Wesley; daughter, Christine (Mierke), Jerry VanDewalle; stepdaughters Christina (Brian) Standt and Audry (Michael) Warr; grandchildren Ashley, Brandon, Christopher, Heather, Todd and Brian; niece, Patricia (Harry) Aunkst; nephews John (Sherry) Comella, Christopher (Jennifer) Wagner; sister-in-law, Nancy Ingraham; brother-in-law, William Jones; cats Alex, Chloe, Button and Kitty.
Predeceased by parents; sister, Louise; brother, Master Sergeant Edward Curtis, USMC; special friends Sally and Gerald (Bucky) Wagner; Grace Yancy; Corrine (Mierke) Comella Kleisle.
