The 37 year old Branchport man indicted earlier this month on charges of 2nd degree murder for an incident that occurred August 6th in the town of Torrey pleaded not guilty in Yates County Court Thursday.
Paul Khouzam is accused of breaking into the home of his mother, 67 year old Dr. Magda Khouzam-Daoud, killing her dog and then savagely beating her with a hammer before stabbing her repeatedly with a knife. She was found unconscious in the basement of her home. Khouzam was arrested as he walked down Arrowhead Beach Road. Dr.Daoud remained on life support at Strong Memorial Hospital until she was transferred to a hospice facility and died October 18th.
Khouzam, who has had multiple run-ins with the law enforcement in Yates, Ontario, Schuyler and Wayne Counties, also pleaded not guilty to charges of burglary, aggravated cruelty to animals and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
During the arraignment proceeding, Yates County Judge Jason Cook authorized Khouzam to undergo a mental competency exam..
