The Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce received a Tourism Excellence Award for the execution and management of the new Visitor Center at the Main Entrance at Watkins Glen State Park. The Chamber operates the Visitor Center in partnership with New York State Parks.
The 5th Annual Tourism Excellence Awards recognized sixteen organizations and individuals for their hard work and inspirational programs. The Tourism Excellence Awards were presented as part of the New York State Tourism Industry Association Annual Meeting, held in Lake George on October 18 and 19. The award given to the Chamber was in the category of Excellence in Visitor Services.
Rebekah Carroll, President and CEO of the Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce shares, “Our efforts in partnership with NYS Parks were over three years in the making. Many months, meetings, and lots of hard work from all sides resulted in a beautiful, efficient, productive – and now award-winning – visitor center. We welcomed over 90,000 visitors from the last week of May through the end of September! Receiving the Tourism Excellence Award is a credit to the power of partnership and it has truly been a pleasure to work together with Fred Bonn, Ron Roney, and the team from NY State Parks to bring this incredible project to fruition.”
