A Cayuga County jury has convicted a 31 year old Utica man on nine felony charges in connection to a February 28th robbery that occurred at a residence in the town of Sterling.
Derek Sedore was found guilty of breaking into the home, and striking the back of the occupant’s head with the butt of a loaded rifle. Sedore, and his co-defendant, 27 year old Caleb Pilkenton, of Auburn, held the victim at gunpoint and tied him up. Both then fled the residence with an armful of stolen property, including four rifles and two handguns. State Police arrested the duo as they were fleeing the home.
Sedore faces up to 25 years to life when sentenced December 20th. Pilkenton pleaded guilty in August to burglary and assault and will be sentenced to 12 years in prison.
In 2011, Sedore and Pilkenton committed a prior burglary together and were sentenced to seven years prison. They were released from custody less than 4 months prior to committing the February burglary. They were both on parole at the time of their arrest.
