Shirley J. Hemminger, age 91, passed on October. 12, 2018.
Friends may call on from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday (November 10) at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. A Funeral Service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery following the funeral.
Shirley was born on August 13, 1927 in Geneva to the late Charles Millerd and Margaret Jauncey Millerd. Shirley married Howard Hemminger, Sr. on April 12, 1947 in Seneca Number Nine Presbyterian Church, where they were members. They celebrated 65 years of marriage before Howard’s passing in 2012. The family they raised together was their greatest triumph and ongoing legacy.
Shirley was a talented stain glass creator and accomplished seamstress. She loved caring for her yard and garden and spending time at the Geneva YMCA. Shirley did the bookkeeping for the family farm, H. J. Hemminger & Son.
Shirley is survived by her four children Howard (Carol) Hemminger, Jr., Cindy (Rick) Phillips, Susan Hemminger (Steve Sloat), Sandy (Gary) Antinelli; six grandchildren Philip (Lori) Hemminger, Laurie Hemminger, Jonathan (Megan) Phillips, Matthew (Tina) Phillips, Elizabeth (Marc) Gardner and Nathan (Sara) Phillips; 10 great-grandchildren Philip II, Andy (Nicole) and Sara Hemminger, and Andrew (Cortney), Christopher, Timothy, Julia, Zachary and Brielle Phillips, and Parker Gardner; and five great-great-grandchildren Addyson and Avalyn Hemminger and Rylee, Landon, and Madigan Phillips; her twin brother, Oakleigh (Pauline) Millerd; sister Katherine Green; several nieces, nephews and friends.
