The driver of the car that struck and killed a 65 year old Seneca Castle man riding his motorcycle back in June has been indicted by an Ontario County Grand Jury on a charge of manslaughter.
25 year old Shreyans Jain, of Kearney, New Jersey, was traveling south on Smith Road in the town of Hopewell in a Hyundai Sonata when he turned onto County Road 4 and collided with an eastbound motorcycle operated by Gerald Saunders. Saunders was ejected from his motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene. Jain and his two passengers had to be extricated from their car and were treated for minor injuries.
The indictment alleges Jain was texting on his cell phone and ran the stop sign at the intersection before striking Saunders. A citizen of India, Jain surrendered his passport and was released on bail. He will be back in court in December.
