Auburn Police Local 195 was among eight unions representing police and firefighters in the 24th Congressional District who endorsed Congressman John Katko on Monday.
Speaking at the Police Memorial at Forman Park in Syracuse, the former federal prosecutor said, “For nearly twenty years, I worked with the brave men and women of our law enforcement to help keep our community safe. I am humbled and honored to receive their endorsement today. Their work is more important now than ever, as we continue to see an increase in violence across our community.”
He added he is, “prioritizing efforts to combat the heroin and synthetic drug epidemic plaguing our community, and pushing national security reforms through Congress to keep our country safe. Our local law enforcement and first responders put their own lives on the line each day and I am proud to fight for their interests in Congress.”
Joe Villano, President of Auburn Local 195 said, “We believe that Mr. Katko’s experience and track record speak for itself. With his law enforcement background, Mr. Katko has always made it a priority to keep our communities safe. We look forward to thriving under Mr. Katko’s leadership for years to come.”
Endorsements were also announced from the Syracuse Police Benevolent Association, the Onondaga County Deputy Sheriff’s Police Association, the Syracuse Firefighter Association, the City of Oswego Police Union, the Upstate Police Benevolent Association, the National Association of Police Organizations, and the New York State Professional Fire Fighters Association.
