A report released Wednesday by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli shows New York continues to be one of 11 donor states in the country. During the 2017 fiscal year New York sent nearly $250 Billion in tax payments to Washington while getting $225 Billion in return.
NY State Association of Counties Deputy Director Mark LaVigne said on Friday’s Finger Lakes Morning News getting about 90 cents back for every dollar paid in taxes creates a drag on the state’s economy.
He said the state’s representatives in Washington can work to remove the state from the donor list.
According to the report, most of what flowed from DC was payments through Social Security, Medicare and other federal programs.
