Officials from Cayuga Community College and the City of Auburn will be at Falcon Park at 5:00 pm on Monday to break ground on the turf field installation project that will expand the ballpark from being the home of the Auburn Doubledays to also being the winter, spring and fall home of the Cayuga Spartans.
The Doubledays and Auburn and other local high school baseball currently play about 60 games a year at Falcon Park. City Manager Jeff Dygert says with the upgrade to synthetic turf it’s anticipated more than 300 games and practice sessions will be scheduled over a ten month season.
Cunningham Excavation of Cazenovia will install the new field beginning next week. Upgrades to the clubhouses and stadium lighting will also be done over the winter. Those improvements are made possible by grant funding obtained by New York State Senator John DeFrancisco.
