The Cayuga County Legislature’s Ways and Means committee has approved a resolution to create a Department of Public Works that will manage all the county’s facilities.
County Administrator J. Justin Woods tells Finger Lakes News Radio it’s the first of a number of plans resulting from the study to streamline county operations.
He adds there will be a trickle-down effect across the county.
The new Department of Public Works would include Administration, Highway and Buildings and Grounds divisions overseen by a Director of Public Works.
A public hearing on the proposed local law will be held before next Tuesday’s full legislature meeting, after which the lawmakers could vote or postpone the decision to a later meeting.
