Auburn City Council on Thursday unanimously approved the plan to lease Falcon Park to Cayuga Community College. Council also approved the $1.4 Million contract with Cazenovia-based Cunningham Excavation to install a turf field at the ballpark.
City Clerk Chuck Mason said on Friday’s Finger Lakes Morning News there’s an obvious benefit for the city.
The clubhouses and outfield fence will be updated and new LED lighting will be installed thanks to a grant obtained by Senator John DeFrancisco.
The college will pay just over $6 Million over the 20 year term of the lease that will make Falcon Park the home of the new Spartans baseball team and other CCC teams.
The Spartans’ inauguaral home opening double header is scheduled for April 2.
