Mrs. Hazel L. Weise, 93, of Geneva passed away on Saturday (October 6, 2018) in the Geneva Living Center North.
Friends may call at the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home, 181 N. Main St., Geneva on Friday, (October 19, 2018) from 5 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday (October 20, 2018) in St. Francis de Sales Church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.

Hazel was born in Waterloo and resided in this area all of her life. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Edith May Opdyke Mitchell. She was retired from the Seneca Army Depot. Hazel was a volunteer for several organizations including the March of Dimes, Smith Opera House, the Ave Maria Shop, had over 10,000 hours at Geneva General Hospital where she was awarded the Cameo Award and was a volunteer for the Whale Watch. She was named Senior Citizen of the year in 1997. Hazel was a member and active in Our Lady of Peace Parish where she was a Eucharistic Minister, a member of 3rd Order of St. Francis and a member and past President of the Rosary Society, a member and past president of Court Annunciation of the Catholic Daughters of America and taught Religious education. In her later years she loved to Fish and won the Rainbow Trout division of the 2003 Lake Trout Derby. She was an avid New York Yankee fan.
She is survived by her sons John of Geneva, James of Alaska and Joseph (Donna) of Geneva; her daughters Jeanne (Dan) Colopietro of MD, and Jana (Tony) Regas of Fla.; her brothers Richard Mitchell of Waterloo and James Mitchell of Fayette; her sister, June Heintz of Ohio; eight grandchildren Michael Weise, Jeffrey Weise, Kelly (Greg) Kaczowka, Kelley Colopietro (Paul), Daniel Colopietro, Jaclyn Colopietro, Jamie Colopietro and Reid Weise; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, John; her son, Jeffrey; and her sisters Loretta and May; and her brothers Walt, Charles, Don, Phil and John.
