Nearly 2 dozen dogs and their owners were at Hoopes Park in Auburn on Sunday for the annual Blessing of the Animals. October 4 is the date of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. It was the first time presiding over the blessing for Rev. Beth Malone, of Auburn United Methodist Church.
Carol Russell, the Director of the Finger Lakes SPCA of Central NY, was there with Alex, her Bichon Poodle mix.
Speaking on Monday’s Finger Lakes Morning News, Russell said last month’s yard sale was a big success.
Russell added the number of cats and kittens up for adoption at the shelter is “a disaster” because many people fail to have their cats spayed or neutered.
