A 22 year old Dundee man was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital after being involved in a landscaping accident late Thursday morning on Roenke Road in Milo.
Dante Ortiz was mowing the lawn of a private residence near Miles Winery when his mower lost traction on a hill. Ortiz tried to jump off the mower when his feet got caught up in the machine. He and the mower then went down approximately 15-to-20 feet into a gulley, pinning Ortiz under. According to Ortiz’s father, Kim Sutherland was working with Dante and heard him scream and immediately called 9-1-1. She attempted to move the mower but it kept sliding down in the mud, pinning Dante’s legs even more and causing additional pain. Ortiz was pinned for up to an hour as emergency crews determined how to remove the mower safely because of its awkward position.
The Ortiz family would like to thank everyone that involved in Dante’s rescue.
