A 36 year old Rochester man escaped injury Monday after his sailboat became stuck on the rocks of Pultneyville Harbor on Lake Ontario.
A passing motorist spotted Kevin Mannix’s sailboat in distress. Mannix had sailed out of the Port of Rochester Monday morning but strong northeasterly winds slowed his progress towards his destination of Oswego. As Mannix attempted to navigate into the harbor through the outside channel, high winds and waves pushed his boat onto the rocks that jut out from the port. Before salvage crews could respond, strong wave action dislodged the boat from the rocky shoal and pushed it back onto the beach.
Mannix was treated for hypothermia at a local hospital and released.
The boat was secured and will be removed when calmer conditions prevail.
