About 20 people were on hand for the emergency meeting of Save Owasco Now held on Monday evening at the Cayuga Onondaga BOCES.
Auburn City Councilor Jimmy Giannettino formed the grassroots group along with Councilor Terry Cuddy. He tells Finger Lakes News Radio the people at the meeting are frustrated with the state.
Giannettino says they are renewing a letter writing campaign to request that Owasco Lake be reinstated as a priority on the national 303(d) registry, with a comprehensive watershed pollution source assessment and Total Maximum Daily Load clean up program within two years.
The group also wants the public to urge the Department of Environmental Conservation to apply new permit requirements announced last month to all concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFO), not just those that fall under the Clean Water Act. The deadline for the public reporting period is October 11.
