Suspended Rochester City Court Judge Leticia Astacio pleaded not guilty Monday to a charge of attempted criminal purchase of a weapon.
Last month, Astacio was indicted by a Monroe County grand jury for allegedly trying to buy a shotgun back in April from a Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Henrietta. She is prohibited from owning a gun because she is on probation for her prior DWI conviction. Astacio’s attorney said they do not anticipate agreeing to a plea deal and will take the matter to trial, which might not happen until 2019 since Ontario County Judge William Kocher is set to retire at the end of the year.
A conviction of a felony automatically leads to disbarment.
Seneca County District Attorney Barry Porsch has been assigned to prosecute the weapon charges.
