The Cultural Italian American Organization, better known as CIAO, hosted its 5th annual Columbus Day dinner at the Springside Inn on Sunday evening.
This year’s honoree was Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould, who is retiring at the end of the year after 50 years of service in the military and law enforcement. In an emotional acceptance speech, the Sheriff thanked the families of law enforcement officers and all first responders for their support.
He reflected on his distinguished career with the State Police and said he tried to stay true to the campaign promise he made when running for Sheriff.
Sheriff Gould was presented with certificates of appreciation from the state senate and assembly by State Senator Pam Helming and Assemblyman Gary Finch, while Auburn Mayor Michael Quill presented him with the key to the city.
