Harmful Algal Bloom issues dominated the discussion at Thursday’s Auburn City Council meeting.
Council members expressed frustration with the new reporting procedures for test results of water samples. County Environmental Health Director Eileen O’Connor said the state is now outsourcing some testing to private labs which are not allowed to report results lower than point three parts per billion.
City Clerk Chuck Mason said on Friday’s Finger Lakes Morning News the city needs to know those numbers.
Councillor Jimmy Giannettino expressed concerns about how the $65 Million in state funding announced by Gov. Cuomo in June is being distributed.
Eileen O’Connor and Municipal Utilities Director Seth Jensen reported there have been fewer reports of harmful algal blooms in Owasco Lake this year compared to the past two years. and the toxins that have been found have been eliminated by the carbon filtration system.
