Effie Ida Masi, 81, of Seneca Falls, N.Y. passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, (September 24, 2018) at Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center in Greece, N.Y., with her loving niece, Loretta at her side.
Calling hours were Wednesday (September 26) from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Pettigrass Funeral Home. Services are Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn. Burial will follow in Soule Cemetery.
She was born in Newark, N.Y. the daughter of the late Fred and Carrie Fry Haynes and had been an area resident for most of her life. Effie retired from Dunn and McCarthy Shoe Co., after more than 24 years of employment. Effie enjoyed the simpler things in life, like feeding the birds, squirrels , her beautiful flower beds, which included her favorite flower the Dahlia . If she wasn’t outside enjoying Mother Nature, she could be found, cooking, baking or working on some intricate embroidered items, that she would masterfully design. Effie also loved cats and could often be seen wearing her favorite color ‘ Red’. She was a wealth of knowledge, knowing a little about everything, a ‘ true’ storyteller and was often referred as ‘The Museum’. Effie’s sense of humor will be sadly missed and always remembered by her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving niece, Loretta Laughlin and her husband, Keith of Pa.; great-nieces Carrie (Mike) Mann of Rochester and Deidra Haynes.
In addition to her parents, Effie as predeceased by her husband, James in 2002; a sister, Irene Sennett; and three brothers DeForest, George and Frank Haynes.
