There’s some good news in the August unemployment report from the State Labor Department.
The jobless rate in Cayuga county was 4.3%, down 4 tenths from last August and the ninth straight month of lower year-to-year unemployment.
The number of unemployed residents last month was down 300 to 1,600, while the number of residents with jobs remained flat compared to a year ago at just under 35,000.
On the negative side, the rate was 2 tenths of a point above the state average (4.1%) and the national rate (3.9%). It also places the county in the bottom third of all counties in the state.
