Pauline Cornelia Bremer, 99, passed away on September 21, 2018, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility in Hillsdale, Michigan. She was born on March 7, 2019 in Phelps, New York, the daughter of Lewis and Emma (Des Camps) De May. On November 17, 1937, she married Harold E. Bremer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday (September 27) at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Phelps, New York, with The Rev. Peter Van Lieshout as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Cemetery.
Pauline lived her whole life in Phelps and attended a one room school. She was a life long member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Throughout her life, she worked with her husband on the family farm, as a file clerk with Home Decorators, and as a sales person in her sister Mary Grace’s clothing store in Phelps. But, the job she loved most was driving the students of Phelps Central School on her bus, which she did for seven years.
She also volunteered; delivering meals for Meals on Wheels, at the , at St. Francis’ Food Pantry and serving as Secretary for the Golden Agers Club in Phelps. She was a charter member of the Business and Professional Woman’s Club in Phelps. Pauline loved her card games, especially Euchre. She loved tending her flower garden, especially her gladiolus, and was a dedicated Yankees fan.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; seven siblings and one great-great-grandson. Pauline is survived by her daughters, Dorothy B. Sylvester (Robert) of New Bern, N.C. and Helen B. Willson (John) of Hillsdale, Mi. Also surviving are grandchildren Julianne Budd (Ronald), Laura Leutheuser (Eric), Amy Zoll (Edward), Robert Sylvester (Cheryl) and Andrew Sylvester (Lauren). She was proud great grandmother to Ryan, Nicole, Anna, Alison, Andrew, Clara, Emma, Grace and Jeremy, Eddie and Amber. She leaves behind a legacy of 21 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday (September 26) from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Cheney Funeral Home, 70 Main Street. Van Horn-Eagle Funeral Home, Hillsdale, Michigan assisted with the transportation arrangements.
