Meanwhile, in high school gridiron, in a game you heard on WGVA, Wayne rallied to knock off Geneva, 48-31; and in a game you heard on WAUB, Weedsport topped West Canada, 20-14. Elsewhere, Cato-Meridian clobbered Westmoreland, 48-0; General Brown blew out Jordan-Elbridge, 50-20; Red Jacket crushed Cuba-Rushford, 39-8; ER/Gananda nipped Newark, 30-22; Canandaigua whipped Webster Thomas, 38-7; and Waterloo mashed Midlakes, 38-16. And don’t forget, we’ve got Giants football this afternoon, as they head to Houston for a 1 o’clock tilt on Finger Lakes News Radio. Meanwhile the Buffalo Bills travel to Minnesota, also at 1.
In girls’ high school soccer, Auburn upended Syracuse, 2-0; LaFayette took out Cato-Meridian, 4-1; Midlakes ran over Romulus, 8-1; and Pal-Mac edged Greece Odyssey, 3-2; and Naples wasted Waterloo, 6-1. On the boys’ side, Newark and Penn Yan played to a scoreless draw; Honeoye blanked Bloomfield, 3-0; Naples whitewashed Waterloo, 7-0; and Gananda gashed Midlakes, 8-2.
In mens’ college soccer, Hobart and Skidmore tied at 1; Wells dropped one to Morrisville State, 2-1; Cayuga CC clobbered FLCC, 10-0; and Keuka slipped by SUNY Cobleskill, 3-2. In womens’ action, William Smith bested Skidmore, 1-0; Morrisville State shutout Wells, 3-0; FLCC flushed Cayuga CC, 9-0; and Keuka smashed SUNY Cobleskill, 7-0.
In MLB, the Yankees eked by Baltimore, 3-2, clinching a postseason berth; while the Mets washed out in Washington, 6-0. Both series resume this afternoon.
