The Auburn Fire Department will be getting a new rescue truck after city council formally accepted a $635,000 federal grant.
City Clerk Chuck Mason said on Friday’s Finger Lakes Morning News this is the right time to buy.
The $800,000 rig has a 30 year lifespan and is likely to be delivered about a year from now. Chief Joe Morabito tells Finger Lakes News Radio it is a wise investment.
The city will have to pay 10 percent towards the truck and gear. Fire Chief Joe Morabito told City Council a fire department in Ecuador is interested in buying the old truck and the funds from the sale would offset the city’s costs.
Council also formally approved a smaller grant that will allow the department to purchase new breathing apparatus for firefighters.
