Seneca County is number one in the state — in obesity. 44 and a half percent of Seneca County adults are obese, according to a new report. Seneca County Cooperative Extension nutrition educator Mo Tidball says it’s sobering news.
She says healthy eating starts early, with programs like the county’s farm to school initiative, which brings locally-produced foods into the county’s four School Districts.
Earlier this year, Seneca County Cooperative Extension received 89 thousand dollars out of a million statewide allocated to farm to school programs. The lowest obesity rate in the state was in Manhattan, at 16 percent.
