Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced that Cayuga County was awarded nearly $400,000 in federal funds for disaster preparedness and counterterrorism efforts through various grant programs.
Just over $116 thousand will be headed to the county’s Emergency Management Office.
Acting Director Niel Rivenburgh tells Finger Lakes News Radio the funding will support a number of initiatives.
Funds will not have to be used for flooding from Tropical Depression Florence. For the second time this summer, the county dodged a weather bullet.
Twenty five percent of the federal funds will be used for law enforcement terrorism prevention efforts while nearly $35,000 awarded through the Emergency Management Performance Grant Program will be earmarked for disaster and emergency training for emergency management professionals.
