Next week is Sheriffs Week in New York. The week-long event celebrates the significant contributions made by the the office of the highest-ranking law enforcement officer in the county.
This will be the last Sheriffs Week for Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould.
Sheriff Gould said on Wednesday’s Finger Lakes Morning News he’s confident Detective Lt. Brian Schenck will be ready to become sheriff in 2019.
Det. Lt. Schenck is running unopposed. Fifty-five of New York’s 58 sheriffs are elected officials.
