Hydrant Hose Company firefighter Joe Adulte was recently presented with a New York State Senate Liberty Medal by State Senator Pam Helming for his heroic actions this summer.
Back in July, Adulte witnessed an infant drowning in a pool in the city of Geneva. Joe said his fire department training kicked in as he jumped into the pool fully clothed and pulled the drowning baby from the bottom.
The New York State Senate Liberty Medal is the highest honor an individual can receive by the state Senate. Similar to the national Congressional Gold Medal, the award is bestowed upon individuals who have merited special commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts and achievements on behalf of their fellow New Yorkers.
