Geneva will mark the 17th anniversary of the September 11th attacks Tuesday morning at Lakefront Park. The 10 a.m. event takes place at the foot of Long Pier, where there is also a Sept. 11 memorial.
Mayor Ron Alcock will serve as master of ceremonies and will read the city’s proclamation. State Senator Pam Helming, and Assemblyman Brian Kolb are both scheduled to speak. The American Legion Doughboys will participate in the ceremony, as will city police and fire department members.
The event is held to remember the victims and many people who responded to the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City; at the Pentagon; and to pay tribute to the passengers on a jet that terrorist hijackers had intended to fly to Washington, D.C., to crash into either the Capitol or White House.
