The Chamber is seeking nominations for volunteer directors for three-year terms beginning
January 1, 2019. Past board president Lauren Kolb as well as Don Cheney of Cheney & Blair, Chris Burns of Inn on The Lake and Terry Wolcott from Constellation Brands will all be concluding their faithful service to the board at year-end. On a personal note, they have all made it easier for me to find success as a new executive director and to deliver value to our members and our community as a whole. Their efforts will be recognized at the Chamber’s annual meeting in February.
Based on these vacancies, this year’s nomination committee is seeking representatives from the following industry segments: Hospitality (including lodging, restaurant and attraction management), Law and Legal Services (ideally with interest and experience dealing with not-for-profit organizations), Manufacturing/Processing and Entrepreneurial Business.
The future holds great promise for the Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce, and if you’d like to invest in it, please consider this opportunity. Board meetings convene monthly and attendance and participation are vital to the ongoing success of the Chamber. This past weekend we did a ribbon cutting for DeTomaso’s Pizza! Their great event helped support the Wildlife Rockstars as well.

YEA returns to Canandaigua
Many long-time friends of the Chamber recall a time when we served as the lead organization in a local chapter of YEA (Young Entrepreneurs Academy). YEA is returning to our community due to the efforts of two long-time Chamber member organizations; Finger Lakes Community College and Key Bank.
YEA is a national program that takes students, in grades six to 12, through the steps of starting a business. Students will meet at the FLCC Canandaigua Campus on Saturday mornings, from 9 a.m. to noon, from Oct. 20 through May 2019, with breaks around the holidays. The program, which includes field trips and guest speakers from the local business community, is of no cost to students into the program thanks to a generous grant from the Key Bank Foundation. The application deadline – Sept. 15 – is coming up quickly.
