Margene was born in Camptown, Pa. and has been a resident of Geneva for many years. She was the daughter of the late Ransom “Pete” and Genevieve “Jane” Sumner Fuller. She was a graduate of Robert Packer Hospital school of nursing and Pittsburgh University for Pediatric Nursing. Before moving to Geneva she was a Registered Nurse in the pediatric unit at Robert Packer Hospital. Margene lived every day to the fullest and found joy in all of life’s simple pleasures. From wine time to bridge club, her home was open to all and was a regular gathering place for family and friends. She loved reading, journaling, puzzles, traveling and attending plays and concerts. Growing up on a farm, she always had a fondness for the outdoors. She loved gardening, walking through the woods, boating with her family, and bird watching.
Margene was truly a selfless servant. She was a devout member of the First Baptist Church in Geneva for many decades, serving as clerk for over 20 years, helping with community lunches, singing with the choir, and contributing to Bible Study, women’s group, and other outreach activities. She also regularly volunteered at the Center of Concern. While raising a family of six children, she also welcomed exchange students into her home, served as a Cub and Girl Scout leader, and was a surrogate mom for many in the community.
She is survived by her sons William E. (Michiko) Achilles of Japan, Peter C. (Maria “Mary” ) Achilles of Geneva, Stephen F. (Donna) Achilles of Geneva, David R. (Becky) Achilles of Geneva; and her daughter, Gretchen Achilles, (Robert Hanley) of Geneva; nine grandchildren Jennifer Achilles, Meredith (Michael) Vorozilchak, Stephanie Achilles, Lianne Achilles, Thomas Achilles, Emily (Higor) Peres, Peter C.
