A Port Byron couple charged after allegedly raising thousands of dollars by falsely claiming their son had cancer are facing new charges.
The Citizen reports Martin and Jolene LaFrance were charged on August 7 for an incident in July. Investigators say the couple drove to a residence in the village of North Syracuse and allegedly took fentanyl in the presence of children. Village Police Chief Steven Rotunno says child and family services in Onondaga and Cayuga counties were notified.
The pair were arrested in May after allegedly running a GoFundMe scam that raised thousands of dollars and securing other benefits including a visit to a Syracuse University football practice.
