Karla Taylor, age 65, died peacefully at home with her family by her side on Wednesday (August 29, 2018).
There will be no prior calling hours. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday (Sept. 1) 10 a.m. at the United Church of Phelps with Rev. Adrian Tierson officiating.
It his requested that memorial donations be made to Wildlife Rockstars 5760 Duke of Gloucester Way Farmington, New York 14425. Wild life Rockstars graciously brought “Ozzie” an eagle owl which is Karla’s spiritual animal, to her home the week before she passed.
Karla was born on October 24, 1952 in Clifton Springs N.Y. the daughter of the late Merton and Jennie Smith Sweet. She was a 1970 graduate of Phelps High School and served as secretary for her class. Karla has made a lifelong commitment of quiet and humble service to the community of Phelps. She served as secretary for the Melvin Hill Cemetery for almost 40 years. She also served on the Sauerkraut committee for over 40 years. She served on the Bi-centennial and Susqusential committees. She was a member of the Phelps BPW and was a past President, Vice-President and Assistant District Director. She was listed in 1993 edition of Who’s Who of Rising Young Americans and was also recognized in Notable American Women. In 2016 she was awarded the Mary Hicks Preston Memorial Award for her lifelong commitment to Phelps.
She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, James Taylor of Phelps; sons Chad Landon Sweet of Reno, Alexander Nathan Taylor of Myrtle Beach, Brandon Andrew (April) Taylor of Waterloo; grandchildren Penelope, Logan, Maddie, Chase, Wyatt, Savannah, Skyler and Logan; brother, Merton (Sheila) Sweet Jr. of S.C., Janice (Frank) Touron of N.C.; many nieces and nephews.
