Tragedy in Yates County late Tuesday morning as a farming accident claimed the life of a one-year old child.
According to the Yates County Sheriff’s Department, 32-year-old Ervin Zimmerman was operating a skid steer loader at his Hoyt Road farm in the town of Milo shortly before 11 o’clock when he backed over the child, who allegedly ran or walked into the path of the machine. Witnesses alerted Zimmerman, who exited the loader and pulled the victim out from underneath. Penn Yan Ambulance and Medic 55 personnel administered aid to the child, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Yates County Sheriff’s Department, District Attorney’s Office and Yates County Coroner are continuing to investigate.
