Samuel F ”Salvatore” Giansante, 93, of Ransom Road Clarence, N.Y., died Thursday (August 16, 2018) at Brothers of Mercy Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Clarence, N.Y.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. on Monday (August 20) at Our Lady of Peace RC Church, 10950 Main St, Clarence, NY; Please assemble at church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev Thomas Doyle. Calling hours will be Sunday (August 19) from 4 to 8 p.m. at Shepard Bros. Funeral Home, LLC, 10690 Main Street, Clarence, NY. Burial will be in Maplelawn Cemetery , Elba, NY.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Samuel’s early education was at St. Mary’s School in Waterloo, N.Y. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Education from the American International College in Springfield, Mass 1950. He worked in the Elba School District for 37 years. Starting out as a teacher, then becoming a principal and finally ending his career as the Elba Superintendent of the the District. He retired in 1988. He was a WWII veteran, SGT in the Army from 1943-1946 Chief Radar Operator, and supervised a crew of eight. He served overseas In New Guinea and Philippines for 18 Months. He was a member of the American Legion in Elba. Samuel sat on the board for ARC in Genesee County, was a volunteer Fireman in Elba, he did furniture repair, grew roses, played golf, and was a huge avid Yankee’s fan. He also was an active member of his church Our Lady of Fatima in Elba serving as an lector, president of parish council, elder of the church, on catholic charities and he received the St. Joseph’s Award from the diocese.
He was the beloved husband of Mary T. (Garvey) Giansante; loving father of Mark P. (Joan) Giansante, Matthew (Katherine) Giansante, late Judith Ann and Mary Ann Giansante; cherished grand-father of Katherine M., Sarah A., Emily S., and Margaret A. Giansante; son of the late Peter and Mary (Simone) Giansante.
He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
