Congressman John Katko is calling on Democratic opponent Dana Balter to return a contribution from Gov. Cuomo following his America was never great comment on Wednesday. Balter received $2,700 from Cuomo’s political action committee created to assist Democrats in tight Congressional races.
Cuomo’s political opponents on the right and left yesterday were taking full political advantage of that comment made Wednesday at a bill signing in Manhattan as he was criticizing President Trump and his “Make America Great Again” slogan.
Democratic primary rival Cynthia Nixon accused him of trying and failing to sound like a progressive, while Republicans bought him a one-way bus ticket to Canada. Cuomo’s allies rallied around him, saying his comment was an acknowledgement of the country’s history of racism, sexism and intolerance.
Meanwhile, both candidates for the 24th District seat will be meeting with constituents over the next week. Balter will hold a town hall meeting Saturday morning at 11:00 am at the Creamery in Skaneateles. Katko will discuss veterans’ issues next Wednesday at 6:30 pm at the Wayne County Public Safety Building in Lyons.
