The driver of the tractor trailer involved in an accident last weekend in the town of Seneca that claimed the life of a Waterloo woman has been identified by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
27-year-old Manuel Vallejo, of Mount Vernon, New York, was driving the truck-trailer combination that had just left the Casella Landfill in Stanley just around noon on August 4th after emptying a trailer of residential waste. A review of video footage from Casella showed a large rock wedged between the rear driver’s side dual wheels of the trailer as it exited the scale. Footage from a local business showed the truck heading east on Route 5 after leaving the landfill, while its rear trailer mudflaps were pinned up, a state traffic law violation. Barbara Amidon was the passenger in an westbound car on Route 5 when the rock shook loose from the truck’s wheel and penetrated the car’s windshield, striking her. Amidon was pronounced dead later that evening.
Vallejo, who owns the truck with his brother, was ticketed for the splash guard violation and was issued an appearance ticket for Seneca Town Court.
